Illustration Friday: Theatre

My first Illustration Friday entry! This week, the prompt-word was Theater (or for us English spelling types… Theatre). My entry is, obviously, below.

Illustration Friday - Theatre - Jacky Gilbertson

Things are a bit hectic my first week back as I’ve just gotten back to work, all my friends are returning from THEIR respective studies and there’s a few events that I am helping plan/prepare for so… whoo! This is a quickie, to say the least… it was done in an hour. The concept was something that I thought about for a bit, a bit earlier, but actual execution was only an hour. I think a big reason that it went so fast is because it is TINY (72 DPI) so it was easier to work that way.

Anyway, my concept was the “love of theatre”. You know those people who live for theatre. But somehow, they always seem to know people who despise the stuff, but they get dragged along anyway. It was also a bit of a reference to the classic theatre masks.

I’m most happy with it, aside from the empty audience. But it gets the message across, andd it was fun and some good practice during a very hectic week! I hope I can keep up with this resolution, because it seems worth while.

    Jacky, this is fantaastic!
Wonderful characters, perfect expressions, amazing atmosphere.
As the other half of a musicals lover I know how he feels, although if you see enough you learn to like them.
What more can I say but…ENCORE, ENCORE!

That is seriously fantastic! I love the mans expression. I’ve seen that on far too many people whilst people watching at the theatre. Illustration Friday is a wonderful idea. Sometimes it’s all too easy to get caught up in other things and forget about making art just for the fun of it.

Your style has certainly changed over the past few years – I use to talk with you eons ago, from vortex I think it was. Your color choices and composition are very good as always. I love your quirkiness in composition and weathered after effects. The only criticism I could possibly give is that her fingers are a little too wired and hectic to the point that if this piece was cropped, you would never know they were hands… and the man looks like he is holding a cell phone. However as a whole, the piece is awesome! I totally praise you. Can’t wait to see more! I would love to collaborate with you… if you’re interested – email me.
