About Me

As you probably have figured out, my name is Jaclyn Gilbertson, preferably shortened to Jacky. I’m a lady-type residing in Canada, and I spend most of my time either drawing or designing. If I’m not doing that, I’m usually in pursuit of a cat, most likely my cat, the one I call Pancakes.

I was born 22 years ago in a small town called Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Canada. I spent most my time drawing (as well as making short films) to fill the endless hours of boredom that are usually part of the small-town package. Then, 18 years later, I escaped to the city of Calgary, and joined my brother to study design and illustration at the Alberta College of Art & Design.

I graduated from ACAD with a Bachelor’s of Design in May 2009, and I’m now trying to make it as a freelance illustrator / designer in my free time from my current 9-5 job.

I’m a bit of a walking contradiction; dressing and decorating my life in bright colours (my favourites being acid green and hot pink) while reading and obsessing over serial killers, ghosts and zombies. I’m constantly struggling with these two halves; the desire to draw both the annoyingly adorable and the disturbingly dark.

Besides that, I enjoy the absurd things in life; foreign candy, history and biology documentaries, horror movies, amassing a horde of cats and living my life in neon.
